چکیده

A novel Gemini amphiphile, N,N′-bis-(4-decyloxy-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-ethane-1,2-diamine, was synthesized and characterized. This amphiphile is capable of forming stable monolayer at air–water interface. The limiting area has a minimum when the pH value of subphase is 12. The unique behavior is attributed to the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bond between hydroxyl groups. The existence of this hydrogen bond was supported by the FTIR results. With the addition of copper ion into subphase, the limiting area showed a decreasing value, w c ©

Gemini surfactants at the air/water interface: a fully atomistic molecular dynamics study.

Gemini surfactants typically consist of two single-chain surfactants chemically linked by a spacer molecule. We report herein the results of fully atomistic molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of a series of Gemini surfactants: CsH2s-alpha,omega-bis(C12H25N+(CH3)2Cl-), at the air/water interface with s = 3, 4, 6, 12, 14, and 16, at values of the initial surface area per surfactant AS = 70 A2, 7...

Effects of hydrophobic chain length on temperature dependence of monolayer behavior of ester-type tartaric geminis.

Ester-type tartaric gemini amphiphiles bearing two carboxyl groups and two hydrophobic alkanoyl groups were prepared from L-tartaric acid, and the pressure-area (π-A) isotherms for a series of symmetric tartaric gemini amphiphiles were measured by the conventional film-balance technique. The effects of the length of the hydrophobic alkanoyl chains and of the subphase temperature (T(sub)) on the...

Mesoscale surface patterning of a laterally-grafted rod amphiphile: rings and fibers.

An aromatic amphiphilic molecule based on branched oligo(ethylene oxide) was synthesized. Evaporation-driven ring formation and Langmuir-Blodgett films are investigated by utilizing this rigid-flexible block molecule. The size of the rings is strongly dependent on the solvent evaporation rate and the concentration of the molecule. In case of fast evaporation, volcano-like rings are formed by ev...

Air/Solution Interface and Adsorption – Solution for the Gibbs Paradox*

Several experimental evidences differentiating an insoluble monomolecular film just on the air/ water interface from an adsorbed film of soluble amphiphile solution are presented in order to suggest that the adsorbed film is not located at the air/solution interface. The difference between the two films can be observed by evaporation rates of water across the air/solution interface of three kin...
